Right in the middle of town
Charing Cross sits on the Strand, a few steps from Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, with Embankment and the river just behind. From Rosehill, the typical route comes north through Morden and Clapham, then crosses the Thames near Westminster and approaches along the Embankment. The last mile, through some of the busiest streets in London, is usually the slowest part, so please allow time. Journeys into central London during charging hours may cross the Congestion Charge zone. We will confirm when you book whether it is included in your fixed fare.
Trains from Charing Cross
Charing Cross is a Southeastern station with services to south-east London and Kent, including Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings, Ashford and the coast towns. Trains also stop at Waterloo East and London Bridge on the way out. If you are catching a train to the Kent coast with children and luggage, a car from home to the concourse saves a difficult trip on the Tube.
Evenings in the West End
Many Charing Cross bookings are for evenings out rather than trains. The station is a convenient drop-off for theatres around the Strand and Covent Garden, for Trafalgar Square and for dinner in the West End. We can take you in and collect you later at an agreed time and place, so nobody has to watch the clock for the last train back to Sutton. Groups can share a 6 seater or a 7 seater taxi.
Where to meet the driver
Stopping on the Strand is heavily restricted, so your driver will use a nearby side street where private hire cars are allowed to stop. For a pickup, we will send you the meeting point before you come out. If you are delayed, call or message the office, since we are open all night.
Visitors staying in central London
Hotels around Charing Cross and Covent Garden are popular with visitors. If you are staying there and need to get to an airport, our hotel transfer taxi takes you straight to the terminal. Our Gatwick and London City Airport pages give typical times.
Days out on the Kent coast
Charing Cross is the starting point for trains to Hastings and the towns of east Kent, which makes it a good choice for family days out by the sea. Getting a family with bags, buckets and a pushchair from Rosehill to the platform is easiest by car. On the way back, send us your arrival time, and a driver will meet you so you can head straight home.
Other stations for Kent and the south-east
Many of the same Southeastern trains also call at London Bridge, which may be quicker to reach depending on the time of day. For Sussex and the Gatwick Express, see Victoria, and for trains to the South West, see Waterloo. We collect for Charing Cross from Sutton, Carshalton, Mitcham and all our other areas.
