Who books a 6 seater minicab?
Our MPVs tend to be booked by people who have tried two cars before and found it more trouble than it was worth: two fares, two drivers, and one half of the group always waiting for the other. Typical bookings include:
- a family of five or six heading to the airport for a holiday;
- grandparents joining the family for a day out;
- colleagues going to a meeting or a conference;
- a group of friends heading into Wimbledon or Kingston for the evening;
- a small wedding party travelling between the ceremony and the reception.
Passengers and luggage: getting the balance right
This is the question we are asked most about MPVs. Passenger seats and luggage share the same space, so the more seats in use, the less room there is behind the back row. Six adults with hand luggage is one thing; six adults with large suitcases for a two-week holiday is another.
When you book, tell us how many people are travelling and roughly how many suitcases, holdalls and extra items you have, such as pushchairs, golf bags or a wheelchair. If it looks tight, we will suggest a 7 seater vehicle instead, or a saloon with an estate for the bags. It is always better to sort this out on the phone than at the kerb.
MPV taxi for airport runs
Airport journeys are where a 6 seater really pays off. One car keeps the group and luggage together, and one driver tracks one flight. From Rosehill, the run to Gatwick is usually the shortest, while Heathrow typically takes a little longer depending on the route. For groups flying from Luton or Stansted, a shared MPV also means everyone sits comfortably for the longer drive round the M25.
If you are returning together, book the return at the same time. We will track the inbound flight and, if you ask for meet and greet, your driver will be waiting in arrivals.
Families with young children
An MPV makes life easier with small children: there is room for a changing bag and space to fit child seats without squeezing out an adult. Child seats are available on request. Tell us each child's age when booking and we will make sure the right seats are fitted before you set off.
Local trips and events
A 6 seater is not only for long journeys. We regularly take groups from Rosehill, Morden and St Helier to restaurants in Sutton, shows in central London, and events at venues around Wimbledon. Because the fare is fixed per vehicle, it is often cheaper for a group than several separate cabs, and nobody has to be the designated driver.
Collecting a group from home
A larger car needs a little more room to pull in, which is worth thinking about on narrow residential roads. On the St Helier estate and in the terraced streets around Rosehill and Morden, parked cars on both sides can leave little space to stop. If there is a better place to meet, such as a wider road at the end of your street or a car park entrance, tell us when you book. Having bags ready at the door makes loading quicker and saves the driver blocking the road.
Booking tips
- Count everyone, including babies. Every passenger needs a seat, whatever their age.
- List the luggage honestly. Include pushchairs, sports kit and anything oversized.
- Book early at busy times. Larger vehicles are the first to be booked for school holidays and Christmas.
Parents might also be interested in our school run taxi service, and anyone travelling with a pet should read the pet friendly taxi page first. We cover all of Sutton, Raynes Park and the other areas we serve.
Questions we get asked
How many suitcases fit in a 6 seater taxi?
It depends on how many seats are in use. With all six seats taken, space for large cases is limited, so tell us your exact luggage when booking and we will confirm whether a 6 seater is enough or suggest a larger vehicle.
Is a 6 seater more expensive than a saloon?
A larger vehicle usually costs more than a saloon for the same journey, but for a group it is often cheaper than booking two cars. The booking form shows the fixed fare for each vehicle type.
Can you fit child seats in a 6 seater?
Yes. Child seats are provided on request. Tell us how many children are travelling and their ages.
Can a 6 seater carry a folding wheelchair?
Often, yes, depending on how many passengers are travelling. Mention the wheelchair when you book so we can make sure there is room. If a passenger needs to stay seated in their wheelchair while travelling, please call us to discuss it first.
